700 years since the official attestation of Gornesti
We are proud to be part of the complex cultural history of this unique baroque castle. As a festival of music and arts, the strong ancestry of the estate is engraved in our DNA and is a galvanizer for the AWAKE community.
The dazzling Teleki Estate, home of AWAKE festival since its first edition, was built in Gornesti in 1771 by the count Samuel Teleki, chancellor of Transylvania, founder of Teleki Library. Located on the left bank of Mureş, halfway between Reghin and Târgu-Mureş, Gorneşti is one of the oldest settlements in the county. Written data on the settlement have been found since 1319 when the commune appears under the name of Knezeg and King Charles Robert donates it to the Transylvanian voivode Szecseny Toma.
The castle is one of the best-preserved in Transylvania, having in place original pieces like Murano chandeliers, fireplaces, carved wooden doors, murals and stucco works. A part of Teleki has been refurbished with antique furniture recreating the old sumptuous atmosphere, which visitors can enjoy throughout the year. AWAKE Festival has strongly invested in the restoration of the Teleki Estate by raising awareness and providing financial support. Together with ARCHÉ Association, we are committed to safeguarding this unique site, part of our national heritage.
This Saturday, the 20thof July, you have the opportunity to get a sneak peek of what you’ll discover at #AWAKE3 and visit on a guided tour the Teleki Estate.
